Tell Gov. Cooper: Stand up for all communities and #StopHB370!

TAKE ACTION NOW

Anti-immigrant state lawmakers are pushing a dangerous bill that would make it easier for federal immigration officers to terrorize communities across our state. House Bill 370 forces every North Carolina sheriff to help Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deport community members and hold people in jail for prolonged periods, in violation of the Constitution. If sheriffs refuse to cooperate with this anti-immigrant agenda, they could face removal from office.

Governor Cooper has said he opposes the bill, but he has not yet promised to issue a veto. We know that when local law enforcement officers get involved in federal immigration enforcement, it creates fear and mistrust in our communities, and it harms public safety.

Tell Gov. Cooper to stand up for all communities and veto this dangerous anti-immigrant bill.

Thank you for opposing House Bill 370, the anti-immigrant bill that would make it easier for federal immigration officers to terrorize communities across our state. Now I'm urging you to veto this dangerous bill so that it never becomes law. This new bill removes protections for victims and witnesses of crimes, requires sheriffs to hold people in jail for ICE for up to 48 hours after they should be released, and threatens to remove sheriffs from office if they refuse to carry out this anti-immigrant agenda. As a North Carolinian, I believe all our communities should be protected.

Please do the right thing and veto House Bill 370.

Sincerely,
