Broken. Expensive. Unjust. It's Time to Repeal the Death Penalty.

The death penalty is a broken system that cannot be fixed. It should be repealed. Since 1981, nearly 80 percent of death sentences in our state have been reversed. Pursuing a death sentence costs an average of $1 million more per case than life without the possibility of parole and drains resources that could go to public safety and victims’ families. Sign a petition urging the Legislature to repeal the death penalty.

The death penalty has failed Washington. It should be repealed. The death penalty is a broken system that cannot be fixed:

  • Since 1981, nearly 80 percent of death sentences in our state have been reversed.
  • Pursuing a death sentence costs an average of $1 million more per case than life without the possibility of parole and drains resources that could go to public safety and victims’ families.
  • The death penalty is applied unequally and arbitrarily. Whether the death penalty will be sought has more to do with the local county budget than the facts of the case.

We, the undersigned, urge you to repeal the death penalty in Washington.
