The death penalty is a monument to white supremacy, rooted in slavery and Jim Crow.

In North Carolina, nearly 60 percent of death row residents are people of color – half were convicted by an all-white jury, or a jury with only one person of color.

District attorneys have the power to stop seeking the death penalty, and lawmakers could abolish it. We must demand they use their power to end this legacy of racism and injustice.
