It’s time to hold prosecutors accountable

Prosecuting attorneys are the most powerful actors within the criminal justice system. For decades, they have pushed for more punishment instead of addressing the root causes of crimes.

Prosecutors should commit to smart justice reforms like ending cash bail to make sure both rich and poor are held to the same standard of law, prioritizing treatment and alternatives to jail, and creating transparency in their office.

We need prosecuting attorneys who choose people over prisons.

Sign our petition and let the candidates for St. Louis County prosecuting attorney know you’re voting for criminal justice reform on August 7.

In St. Louis County, an average of nine people a year complete pre-charge drug court in a time where more people than ever are facing drug-related charges.

Since 2012, almost 3,000 individuals have faced cash bail for a misdemeanor charge. Right now, people are sitting in our jails not because they are guilty, but because they haven’t been able to pay for their freedom.

That’s not right.

The next St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney should commit to smart justice reforms like ending cash bail to make sure both rich and poor are held to the same standard of law, prioritizing treatment and alternatives to jail, and creating transparency in their office. They must provide data to the public about their progress and show our community that they support reform.

I pledge to support smart justice on August 7.
