The undersigned call upon Representative Giddings to resign from public office for publicly naming, harassing, and doxxing a 19-year old legislative intern who reported that she was sexually assaulted by Idaho Representative von Ehlinger. Alternatively, we ask members of the House to file a formal ethics complaint against Representative Priscilla Giddings.
Representative Giddings' conduct has been nothing short of unacceptable. The House Ethics and Policy Committee should strongly condemn her behavior and find by clear and convincing evidence that she engaged in conduct unbecoming to a Representative which is detrimental to the integrity of the House as a legislative body in violation of House Rule 45 (2)(b)(i).
Representative Giddings used a government newsletter to publicly release Jane Doe's identity. Jane Doe was subsequently subject to public maligning, harassment, and threats. Further, on April 18, 2021, it was reported that Giddings scoffed and laughed at times during the public ethics hearing, including when the legislative intern's attorney suggested that the bullying endured by Jane Doe would make it less likely that others would feel safe to come forward to report instances of sexual violence.
Representative Giddings' conduct has compromised public trust and the integrity of the Idaho legislature. We ask for her resignation. Alternatively, we request that a bi-partisan complaint be filed and for an ethics investigation to ensue.
