California just made history. Thanks to the leadership of San Diego Assemblymember Shirley Weber, state lawmakers passed one of the strongest use of force laws in the country.
Despite fierce opposition from California’s law enforcement unions and lobbyists, Assemblymember Weber partnered with Sacramento Assemblymember McCarty to introduce AB 392, a groundbreaking bill to reduce the number of police shootings in the state.

The changes you’ve made to California’s laws on police use of force are long overdue. Our communities – especially Black and Brown communities – have suffered at the hands of police for far too long.
Thank you for standing up to special interest groups who were only interested in preserving the status quo.
Most of all, thank you for standing with families who have demanded answers, change, and justice for their loved ones who were killed by police.
