Take action, Prince George's County! In 2022, the Maryland General Assembly created the Community Repair and Reinvestment Fund (CRRF). From the recreational marijuana market, at least 35% of the state tax revenue will be used to repair, heal, and reinvest into the communities that have been most harmed by the dangerous "war on drugs." State law also makes clear that these funds cannot be used for law enforcement or law enforcement activities. The funds also cannot be used to replace existing funding for local government programs. This allowed the Prince George's Council to establish a permanent board in 2023 that would be responsible for issuing funds the county receives from the CRRF.

Now, the Prince George's County Council is considering a harmful bill, CB-093-2026, that seeks to significantly limit the role and decision-making authority of the county's Cannabis Reinvestment and Restoration Board.

The dangerous and racist "war on drugs" drove the mass incarceration and over-policing of Black and Brown people for decades. The Board was intentionally designed to include people with lived experience, strong community connections, and knowledge of the historic and ongoing harms of racial discrimination and the "War on Drugs." The people and communities most impacted by those harms should have a meaningful role in deciding how and where these resources are reinvested, not the Council.

Urge your Councilmember and the County Executive to vote NO and reject CB-093-2026 and to preserve the Cannabis Reinvestment and Restoration Board's decision-making authority.

Tell Prince George's County Executive to reject the bill and Councilmembers to vote "No" on CB-093-2026.
