Congress is about to give the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and ICE more power to surveil our communities and track our movements. The Combating Organized Retail Crime Act (CORCA) is being introduced under the guise of "fighting shoplifting." In reality, however, it quietly hands the federal government broad authority to install new tech that helps them collect and share personal data of anyone who happens to be shopping in a strip mall or picking up groceries for their family. This is a massive expansion of the surveillance state and will only feed into the Trump administration's cruel deportation campaign.

ICE already operates with little transparency or accountability and this bill would only make that worse. Lawmakers need to hear from us before they hand the Trump administration any more power to abuse. The House has already passed this bill, and now the Senate is trying to quietly slip it into a must-pass budget bill.

This bill has far-reaching privacy consequences for all Americans and could also disproportionately impact Black, brown, and immigrant communities. As your constituent, I'm calling on you to reject CORCA and protect our privacy.
