No ICE Detention at FCI Dublin

The message:
In May 2026, the federal Board of Prisons published an environmental review of FCI Dublin, the notorious former women’s prison in Alameda County. This is the first step in a process that could result in the property being turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which is searching for detention space near its San Francisco field office. The public has until Monday, June 1 to provide feedback on the board’s plan to transfer the property.
FCI Dublin is tainted by a legacy of horrific sexual abuse. It’s also unsafe and uninhabitable. The property should be abolished, not repurposed to imprison valued members of the community. Please note: this link will take you to a third-party website, npr.org.
There are currently no immigration detention facilities in Northern California, and we want to keep it that way. As detention capacity increases, so do ICE arrests, human rights abuses, and deaths. We must prevent ICE from expanding the Trump administration’s inhumane system of mass detention in our state.
Use this form to tell the Bureau of Prisons to keep FCI Dublin closed and keep ICE out of Northern California. Feel free to edit the message to add your own personal perspective or experience. For example, you can reflect on one or more of the following topics:
- Share your connection to Dublin (I’ve lived in Dublin for 20 years; I’m a Dublin public school student; I work in Dublin), or immigration detention (I come from an immigrant family; I am a survivor of ICE detention).
- Speak from your experience. (I’m a healthcare worker and immigration detention is bad for public health; I’m a teacher and I’ve seen how detention rips students’ families apart; I’m a Bay Area resident and I don’t want an ICE jail in my community.)
- If you are an expert in a particular area and want to offer comments on your area of expertise, explain why you are uniquely qualified to offer this perspective.
- ICE enforcement increases in areas with detention centers. How could ICE activity impact you and your community?
- How do you feel about inhumane and dangerous conditions in ICE detention?
- ICE detention centers are a strain on local resources. How would it impact you if there is a strain on emergency services, including medical services?
- Traffic also increases around detention centers. How could increased traffic, noise, or pollution impact you or your friends and family?
- Share your affiliations. Name if you are a part of a relevant group or organization.
