Tell Little Compton leaders: Protect our privacy from surveillance!

The message:

The Little Compton Police Department recently asked the Little Compton Town Council for approval to purchase and install one Flock Safety brand automated license plate reader (ALPR) camera in Little Compton. Flock Safety camera systems can capture much more information than just license plates, collecting information as small and distinctive as bumper stickers. The data collected by Flock Safety cameras can be shared across police departments and federal agencies nationally, creating a network of surveillance technology.

For example, Flock Safety camera data from local police nationwide has been used by ICE to find and target people, and a woman in Texas was tracked down because she was seeking an abortion. While the Little Compton Police have a draft policy to regulate the use of these cameras, it does not adequately address our privacy concerns and could be amended in the future without public input.

Currently, Little Compton does not have any Town-owned ALPR cameras installed. This is our chance to push back against invasive technology.

Regardless of what the police say their intentions are in using the system, there are no guardrails in state law or town ordinance protecting our privacy rights, our data, or government transparency in the usage of Flock Safety cameras.

That's why we need your help. Fill out this form to contact the Little Compton Town Council and urge them to reject Flock Safety cameras. We've given you a template below, edit the middle paragraph to explain why privacy is important to you!
