Protect trans youth

Defend Trans Freedom

An upcoming Supreme Court case will shape the future of transgender people's freedom to be ourselves – and we need your help.

Across the country, politicians have targeted transgender people's freedom to determine what's right for our own families, bodies, and lives. This includes states like Tennessee which banned transgender youth from accessing medical care that they, their parents, and their doctors know they need. By banning this care, these states have uprooted the lives of transgender people and their families and threatened their well-being. This law not only threatens the stability of transgender people and their families but also the stability of critical constitutional protections that affect us all.

Families and doctors are challenging Tennessee's ban under the Constitutional guarantee of equal protection – no one should be targeted by the government just because of who they are. But if the Court rules against transgender people and our families, it poses a risk to the freedom of all people and all families, allowing states that have already banned abortion and gender-affirming health care to go even further, and rubber stamping other anti-trans laws.

We're calling on the Supreme Court to uphold constitutional guarantees for everyone - including trans people. Our lawyers will be arguing before the Court on December 4 – and while they're inside defending our rights, we'll be rallying outside to support the trans kids and families at the heart of our case. Supporting the people whose health care is on the line is not just about defending health care but about defending all of our freedoms. Add your name now and we'll proudly display your support with us at the steps of the Supreme Court.

We all deserve to be free to live our lives without the government taking away our freedoms just because of who we are – yet anti-trans politicians continue to attack transgender people and their families by taking away their ability to control their bodies and health care. The Supreme Court must make clear in U.S. v. Skrmetti that the Constitution's protections apply to us all.

I'm joining the ACLU and people across the country in solidarity with trans youth and their families against cruel and discriminatory health care bans and for our shared freedoms. As ACLU lawyers argue inside, we're urging the Court to follow the Constitution and protect trans freedom.
