Tell Boston City Council: End Secret Surveillance!

TAKE ACTION NOW

Police in Boston have used surveillance technology in secret to monitor activists and violate our civil liberties, while Boston schools continue to share sensitive student information with outside agencies. This has to stop. Communities in Boston should have a say when their government tries to spy on them.

We need to pass the Surveillance and Information Sharing Oversight Ordinance NOW.

Email the Boston City Council today.

Please take action now.

As a concerned resident, I urge you to pass the Surveillance and Information Sharing Oversight Ordinance.

I am deeply concerned that our city government, including the Boston Police Department, can acquire and deploy dangerous, experimental surveillance technology in secret, absent any oversight from the City Council. I’m also concerned that our public schools can freely share sensitive information about vulnerable students with the police.

This ordinance would ensure accountability, oversight, and transparency by requiring police to seek approval from the City Council before acquiring new surveillance technologies or continuing to use existing technologies. Likewise, the ordinance would mandate regular and detailed reporting on the use of these technologies, including their cost and impact on marginalized groups.

Finally, the ordinance would create safeguards so that school officials can’t needlessly or secretly share sensitive student information with police or other government agencies.

Please pass the Surveillance and Information Sharing Oversight Ordinance.

Sincerely,
