As your constituent, I urge you to honor the life and legacy of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg—and protect the constitutional rights of your constituents—by passing the ROE Act immediately.
The Trump administration is determined to exploit the death of Justice Ginsburg. Anti-abortion groups are doing everything they can to undo her life’s work of fighting for reproductive freedom and gender equality. Let’s be clear: Abortion rights hang in the balance across the nation.
The Commonwealth can’t afford to adopt a “wait and see” approach. We know what’s coming. This administration has already succeeded in cutting off access to abortion care for millions of people. Massachusetts has restrictions of its own—and now is the time to remove those barriers.
The ROE Act protects young people from being made to go to court to get health care; ensures that a pregnant woman who learns of a fatal fetal diagnosis later in pregnancy is not cruelly forced to continue her pregnancy until delivery; removes medically unnecessary restrictions; and codifies principles of reproductive freedom into state law.
Justice Ginsburg knew the right to abortion is meaningless without real world access to care—and our current laws prevent access for the most vulnerable.
What you do in the coming weeks and months may very well determine the future of abortion rights in Massachusetts.
Please pass the ROE Act as swiftly as possible.
