TELL GOVERNOR SUNUNU AND COUNTY OFFICIALS TO RELEASE VULNERABLE GRANITE STATERS FROM PRISON AND JAILS

As the COVID-19 pandemic threatens the lives of Granite Staters, public health experts are warning that prisons and jails are becoming tinderboxes for this contagion.

New Hampshire's prisons and jails, where social distancing and other mitigation measures recommended by the CDC are impossible, now pose an imminent threat to the people incarcerated there, staff who work there, and surrounding communities. Nearly 80 percent of the population in one Ohio prison has tested positive. In New York, hundreds of residents and hundreds of staff at Rikers Island have tested positive.

Mass incarceration, already a harmful miscarriage of justice, is now an urgent threat to public health. This is especially true for Black Granite Staters who are disproportionately impacted by the criminal legal system.

Take action now and tell Governor Sununu and our counties to heed the advice of public health experts and release elderly and vulnerable people from our prisons and jails.
