Fourth Annual Unity Through Music Benefit Concert for ACLU-MN

Please join us for an afternoon of jazz to benefit the ACLU of Minnesota.

The Fourth Annual Unity Through Music Concert — conceived entirely to help the ACLU-MN fight for civil liberties — is Sunday, March 8, at 3 p.m.

The benefit features Twin Cities jazz legend Peter Kogan and his jazz quintet. Performing with Kogan will be Pete Whitman (saxophone), Larry McDonough (piano), Chris Bates (bass) and Cody LeDuc (trombone).

The concert is the brainchild of Jean Carey, a specialist in repairing woodwinds, who creates and organizes the event with her family as a gift to the ACLU.

“Bringing musicians and audiences together in support of the ACLU has been such an honor,” Carey said. “ACLU’s fight to maintain civil rights and protect our Constitution has faced astonishing challenges over the last few years. Organizing these concerts has been a way to say thank you for all their wonderful work!”

Peter Kogan is an alum of the Cleveland Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Honolulu Symphony and the Minnesota Orchestra. As a jazz blues and rock drummer, Kogan has backed up Blues legends Lightnin' Hopkins, Honey-Boy Edwards and Jimmy Witherspoon, groups including the Drifters and the Crystals, and Rock and Roll legend Bo Diddley. These days, he performs in the Twin Cities with the Lyra/Baroque Orchestra and with the Peter Kogan Quartet and Septet (also known as The Monsterful Wonderband).

Kogan's 2015 album "Some Monsterful Wonderthing" was named one of the Top 10 Jazz Albums of the Year" in the Minneapolis Star Tribune annual critics poll. His latest, "The Green Album," was released in 2018.

Online ticket sales are now closed, but additional tickets will be available at the doors.

Tickets are $30 each and $10 for students. All proceeds benefit the ACLU of Minnesota.
