AmeriCorps Medical and Mental Health Screening
The ACLU is interested in hearing from applicants to AmeriCorps programs (including NCCC and NCCC FEMA Corps) who were subjected to its medical and mental health screening process.
The ACLU filed a complaint on behalf of someone who was offered a position with AmeriCorps, but who was later disqualified, because she disclosed on AmeriCorps’ health information form that she had received counseling for anxiety. We believe AmeriCorps’ screening process violates civil rights law because it discriminates against individuals who have or who are perceived to have disabilities.
We would like to hear from you if you were required to reveal intimate health information to AmeriCorps on AmeriCorps’ medical and mental health information form, or if you were required to answer additional questions or provide more information to AmeriCorps based on your initial responses on the form.
The information you provide in this questionnaire will be kept confidential unless we contact you and obtain your permission to share it with others or unless we are ordered to turn it over by a court. Please provide detailed responses where necessary. Thank you.
