RSVP for the Screening of Boycott
In the lead-up to a historic election in November, communities are laser-focused on the fragile state of American democracy. Critical to that conversation is American’s First Amendment right of free speech and people’s right to voice dissent and growing concern about the United States' role in Gaza. Join us for a special screening of Just Vision’s film, Boycott, at the Sie Film Center, for a timely conversation on protecting people’s First Amendment right to dissent.
Boycott follows the stories of a news publisher, an attorney and a speech therapist, who, when forced to choose between their jobs and their political beliefs, launch legal battles that expose an attack on freedom of speech across America. The film traces the impact of state legislation passed in 36 states — including Colorado — designed to penalize individuals and companies that choose to boycott Israel.
Boycott is a bracing look at the far-reaching implications of anti-boycott legislation and an inspiring tale of everyday Americans fighting to protect their rights in an age of shifting politics and threats to freedom of speech. The story has taken on renewed energy in light of the widespread crackdown on dissent concerning Palestinian rights and criticism of Israeli policy, with The New York Times editorial team publishing a vital critique of the anti-boycott laws earlier this year.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The film screening is free. Following the screening, there will be a live Q&A with Lindsey Floyd, Staff Attorney, with the ACLU of Colorado, Elisabeth Epps, a Colorado State Representative who introduced a repeal bill to Colorado's anti-boycott law last legislative session, and Kate Schwartz who works with Just Vision, the team behind the film, Boycott.
