Pledge to Check the Sheriff
We deserve a sheriff we can trust.
But since his election last year, Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva has turned his back on county residents and actively worked to undo progress that Angelenos have struggled for so long to achieve.
- He has sought to rehire hundreds of unfit sheriff’s deputies who had been fired for cause. For instance, he reinstated Carl Mandoyan, a deputy who was fired for domestic violence and stalking a co-worker.
- He has botched active investigations of deputies in violation of departmental policies and with criminal allegations like child abuse and sexual assault.
- He has continued the destructive practice of hauling people away to isolated immigration prisons by giving free access to federal contractors to enter the jails and courthouse lockups.
- He tolerates a "secret society" of sheriff deputy gangs that perpetrate violence against other deputies and the community.
We need stronger checks and balances to hold the sheriff and the sheriff’s department accountable.

La Promesa a Controlar al Alguacil
Nos merecemos a un Alguacil en el quien podamos confiar.
Sin embargo, desde su elección el año pasado, el Alguacil de Los Angeles Alex Villanueva ha dado la espalda a sus promesas de campaña, y ha trabajado activamente para deshacerse del progreso para el cual Angelinos han luchado por tanto tiempo.
- Ha tratado de recontratar a cientos de alguaciles no aptos para servir quienes fueron despedidos por causa. Por ejemplo, recontrató a Carl Mandoyan, un alguacil que había sido terminado por violencia doméstica y acecho hacia su compañera de trabajo, y por mentir al respecto.
- Violando las pólizas departamentales, ha parado investigaciones activas de mala conducta, incluyendo acusaciones criminales por abuso infantil, violencia doméstica y acoso sexual.
- Ha continuado la práctica destructiva de llevarse a nuestros miembros de la comunidad a prisiones de inmigración aisladas, por medio de su cede a contratistas de ICE el acceso libre a las cárceles y a las cortes.
- Ha tolerado una "sociedad secreta" de gangas de alguaciles que perpetran la violencia contra otros alguaciles y hacia la comunidad.
Necesitamos sistemas más fuertes para controlar al Alguacil y al Departamento del Alguacil de Los Angeles.
